I’m currently reading a book about Queen Victoria’s daughters. Surprisingly…it is called Victoria’s Daughters. While the themes I have garnered so far are “Victoria was a crazy person!” and “No, seriously, Victoria was bonkers!” It does convey the insular environment that is set up around royalty, and in that, how someone can completely lose perspective on what is appropriate behavior and decorum.
For example, a history fact for you: as a matter of court etiquette, Queen Victoria’s wet nurses- the women tasked with breastfeeding the royal children- had to remain standing while doing so because of the infant’s higher social station.
It’s a baby. Sit down.
